Rocco and I
met at Ft. Meade, MD while attending school. Both of us being
United States Marines, it was very hard to start a
relationship. Soon one of us would be graduating and going to
a new base, as would the other one a few months down the road.
Who knew if we’d be together?
Well,
as it happened, Rocco got stationed in Cherry Point, NC, and I
in Beaufort, SC. It sounds close, a state apart, but it’s not!
Six hour drives were the norm, and me doing it every Friday
night and Sunday afternoon. I put almost 24,000 miles on my
brand new car in 5 months!
One weekend
Rocco and I went up to visit my sister in Virginia Beach,
about 3 hours from Cherry Point. On that day, July 19th, Rocco
proposed to me, while watching the Outdoor Recreation Games on
ESPN. Romantic, huh?
Immediately I started looking for places to have the wedding,
low on cost but in the middle of our two families (his family
is from Wisconsin and mine from Pennsylvania). I was on
theknot.com when I found the Hitching Post, and I immediately
fell in love. I called my mom and told her to look at the
site, and she said it was wonderful too! I called the number
and talked to the house owner, Wendy, who also happened to be
the wedding planner! She was so helpful in everything I asked
her, and I knew this was the right place.
Right
away we started planning, and in a few months we had almost
everything in place. Red roses for the flowers and bows on the
cake.
Before
I knew it, the day before the wedding was here. The night
before, I had burnt a hole through my veil, so I was a nervous
wreck! But Wendy came to the rescue and sewed a whole new veil
for me, which turned out beautiful.
Another
crazy thing happened: I found out that my great, great, great
uncle, Notley Tomlinson had lived in this exact house that I
was getting married in! It was crazy.
The
wedding went just as planned, and the whole night was a
success. I wouldn’t have changed a thing.
I love
Rocco more and more everyday, and we’re both glad we had such
a wonderful place to have our wedding!
